Owner I Chef Profile

Manjula Fernando has been part of the Sydney food scene now for many years. He has experience in buying and handling the right food to suit a variety of palates, and is professionally trained to cater for the best. He has also won many medals and awards and honed his skills in various five star hotels and yachts, including Kerry Packers private yacht for six long years.

Working in different specialised kitchens, Manjula's expertise varies from banquet, Italian, French, Coffee shop, pastry and bakery to al a Carte and fine dining. This experience has been put to the test of time with different functions and menus at prominent 5 star hotels including Sir Stamford Hotel at Circular quay, and more recently, running the Bistro Restaurant in Blacktown City Bowling Club. Now relocated, and the proud owner of his very own restaurant, Manjula has worked extremely hard to take Spoons to yet another level - A fusion of 5 star catering and a la carte dining.

Add the intricacies of event management at Spoons and you will see a whole new Function Centre merge shortly. The timing is right, and so is the product.
The thought of opening up a link between East and West in the renaissance of Culinary education, prompted a move by Manjula to educate the local community About Eastern food. A Cooking School may well be on the cards. He is keen to share his knowledge and experience about authentic Sri Lankan traditional cuisine and link it with creative western know how - a plan that he hopes will generate momentum in the not too distant future.
